Catalog

Retroscape

Retroscape is a fictional music store catalog I created for my first Publication Design course during my third semester. The project focuses on records and albums from the 2000s, an era of music I’m especially passionate about.

For this project, I was also required to write all content in both French and English to comply with language laws in Quebec, which added an extra layer of thought to the project and consideration for bilingualism.

retroscape's vibe

The concept was to appeal to Gen Z and younger Millennial audiences who love a good throwback, resonating the iconic artists and albums that defined the year 2000. To captivate the target market, I decided to base the catalog’s branding on the sky/glassy aesthetic known as “Frutiger Aero,” with the logo drawing inspiration from the Windows Vista interface. The tones of blue represents calm, loyalty and reliability.

2000s nostalgia and beyond!

I drew inspiration from the 2000s music I was listening to, particularly pop with subtle influences of hip-hop and R&B. Tracks and albums from that era formed the backbone of this project. After all, Y2K music is my favorite type of sounds.

With the creative artistry of musicians like Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, and Pharrell Williams as my reference, I aimed to craft a record that would allow listeners who didn’t experience that time to imagine it through sound.
